DO YOU SUFFER FROM BACK PAIN?

Lower Back Pain Relief

Unfortunately, at some point in time, almost everyone will experience lower back pain. It is a leading cause for missing work and a visit to the doctor or hospital. We usually do not think about our back, unless we start to feel a little twinge of pain. Perhaps we were reaching for something in the cabinet, swinging a tennis racquet or golf club, placing a seatbelt around a child, lifting a heavy bag or involved in an automobile accident. If you start to experience pain, you may find yourself searching for a back doctor for back pain relief.

Patients often come to Manalapan Spine Care and Rehabilitation suffering with various back pain symptoms. Lower back pain may develop slowly, come and go, or be immediate.

Symptoms include one or a combination of:

  • Dull aching pain

  • Burning or stinging pain

  • Sharp and debilitating pain

  • Muscle spasm in back (mild or severe)

  • Loss or limited mobility

  • Hip/pelvic pain

  • Pain or numbness that travels from the lower back, down the hip and leg

It is vital to seek care if pain affects your daily activities, the ability to sleep or limits movement. Sometimes back pain may be associated with certain medical conditions, which may necessitate immediate medical care, such as severe abdominal pain, fever or chills.

There are many causes or reasons for lower back pain, these include:

  • Repetitive motion (due to activities/sports)

  • Injury due to a slip-and-fall, automobile or sports accident

  • Poor posture (lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting)

  • Bulging or herniated discs

  • Joint dysfunction

  • Nerve compression

  • Strained muscle/ligament

  • Existing medical conditions

At Manalapan Spine Care and Rehabilitation, our Healthcare Team can help you find back pain relief and prevent a recurrence by creating a customized back pain treatment program. Key to a successful outcome, is to discover the underlying cause of pain.

The first step is to sit down with one of our doctors and conduct an in-depth health history. We want to know if pain is worse after sitting or standing for extended periods of time, if it is difficult to walk up or down stairs, and if it is painful to stand straight. In addition, we want to know how long you have been suffering, whether your pain is acute (comes on suddenly, with symptoms lasting less than one month), subacute (symptoms lasting 2 - 3 months), chronic (lasting 3 months or longer) or if you are experiencing a recurrence, and how it affects daily living.

As a multi-specialty Center, we are able to provide extensive diagnostic techniques to get to the root cause of a patient’s lower back pain. Testing and evaluations include a physical exam by our Chiropractic, Physical Therapy and/or Medical Team, and imaging tests.

Back Pain Treatment Options

Once our Team reviews tests and evaluations, a back pain treatment program is created. To help reduce pain and accelerate healing, treatment options may include a combination of Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Pain Management, Therapeutic Massage and/or Durable Medical Equipment (Legend 631 LSO). Sometimes, lower back pain may be due to problems stemming from the knees and feet. Therefore, back pain treatment options may include Viscosupplementation or Rebuilder®. In addition, we provide lifestyle and ergonomic recommendations.

At Manalapan Spine Care and Rehabilitation, we believe it is important to maintain a healthy weight, engage in regular exercise (with your doctor’s approval), maintain correct posture (always), sleep on a good mattress and pillow, and eliminate harmful habits - such as excessive alcohol and smoking.
